About Sukkat Shalom

Welcome to Sukkat Shalom Edinburgh, the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community. We welcome all progressive Jews as well as those interested in progressive Judaism, to any of our activities. We meet in various locations around the centre of the city. Details—including venues—of our services and other events for the coming months are on our diary page.

Our part-time Rabbi, Mark Solomon, visits regularly and plays an active role in the life of the community.  Rabbi Mark is available for Rabbinic advice and support. We hold regular services for Shabbat and all the Jewish holidays. Our cheder for children from 5 to Bar Mitzvah age meets fortnightly. We also organize a variety of social and educational activities for our members. Our monthly newsletter provides details of all of these and much more.  Once you have made contact with us we can arrange for you to receive it by e-mail if you wish.

We have been an independent community since March 2004 and in the same year we affiliated to Liberal Judaism, who support our development. One of the first things we did was to raise funds for our own Torah Scroll and subsequently, though generous donations, we were able to commission ornaments for the scroll, the rimonim are illustrated on the right. You can read more about the scroll and the ornaments here.
