26th January, 7:30pm, EHC Community Centre
Meriel Schindler will speak to us on her book, The Lost Cafe Schindler.
It is the story of the Cafe Schindler, which was the “whirling social centre of Innsbruck,” and weaves together memoir and family history with the history of the Jews of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, and offers its readers “a profound reflection on memory, truth, trauma and importance of cake!”
Meriel Schindler is an employment lawyer who, on the death of her father, was driven by his “extravagant claims” to write this, her first book. Were they really related to Franz Kafka, Oskar Schindler and Dr. Bloch ( Hitler’s Jewish doctor)?
We look forward to greeting you on 26th January to hear Meriel Schindler’s intriguing and extraordinary story.
