World Jewish Relief’s Myanmar Earthquake Appeal

Our friends at WJR write:

Dear friends,

I appreciate that at this time there are lots of asks of you as we come ever closer to Pesach.

Today World Jewish Relief has launched a full scale emergency appeal for the earthquake in Myanmar.

The lives of thousands of people have been devastated after an enormous 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar on Friday 28th March, followed by huge aftershocks across the region.

You have seen the horrific scenes. Thousands have been killed, and many more are injured, as homes and buildings have been completely destroyed. The rescue operation continues, and the extent of damage is wide ranging.

Before the earthquake nearly 20 million people in the area were in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. The earthquake has only compounded a critical situation.

Sadly, the numbers affected are only going to grow. We have launched an immediate response, with our partner Swanyee.

Swanyee are a well-established partner on the ground in Myanmar who we have been working with for over six years. They know the local community and continue to assess the needs for those affected by this catastrophic disaster.

We are supporting them to meet those enormous instant needs for the most vulnerable in Myanmar; providing direct support for 1,500 families.

We have to act now to help those who need us most.

Our response includes:

  • Cash and vouchers for emergency shelter to help those who have lost everything
  • Hygiene kits, including clean drinking water, soap and water purification tablets
  • Supplying blankets to help keep people warm
  • Providing food packages to the worst affected so they can stay nourished
  • First aid kits to medical units to support all those injured

We are proud to launch this appeal with the full support of the UK’s leading Jewish communal bodies.

Please share with your communities, asking them to donate and be part of the Jewish community’s response to this urgent disaster.

Thank you for your support.
