Path to Progressive Movement

Since April 2023, The Movement for Reform Judaism (MRJ) and Liberal Judaism (LJ) have been working in close partnership to create one new unified Movement to represent all of Britain’s Progressive Jews. In late 2023, Rabbis Charley Baginsky (Liberal Judaism, LJ) and Josh Levy (Movement for Reform Judaism, MRJ) visited us to kick-off the conversation with our community. We then heard again from Charley at our AGM this year.

As part of the work from the past couple of years, the movements released an information packet detailing important information for members to know in advance of the LJ and MRJ’s EGMs in mid-May. It is at these EGMs where the vote on the new movement will take place.

What we are asking from our ELJC members?

We want to hear from you on this new movement, we encourage everyone to review the documents linked below and attend any of the sessions. If you are unable to, please email your comments / questions to the ELJC Chair, Andrea Torres (andreatorres@eljc.org). She can present this on your behalf at one of the sessions.

I’m an ELJC member, how will my feedback / comments help?

Your input will help our Council decide what our collective vote should be at the LJ EGM. Our next Council meeting is 1st May, with the LJ EGM tentatively scheduled for mid-May, we are keen on hearing from you!
