As part of Refugee Festival Scotland 2025, the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre in conjunction with the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre are leading a walking tour around Garnethill on Thursday 19th June at 2pm.
You will learn about some of the places around the Garnethill area which are connected with Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe – from the flats in which refugee artists lived, to the hostels where children from the Kindertransport stayed.
You will hear the stories of some of the people who came to Scotland and made their home here, and about the meeting places that were vital in supporting refugees in building new lives in Scotland.
The walk will take approximately an hour and a quarter (it is hilly in places), and at the end of the walk there will be an opportunity to view the exhibition ‘Scotland a Sanctuary’ at the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre in Garnethill Synagogue.
