Tuesdays, 8:15pm-9:15pm
Every week we meet online to discuss the parashah (weekly Torah reading) for the forthcoming Shabbat. We start by reading a few verses from one of the suggested selections from the Liberal Judaism Lectionary, then we explore the linguistic, historical and theological dimensions of the text and give our own reactions to it.
All members and associate members of Sukkat Shalom are welcome to join us. No familiarity with the text or specialist knowledge is required, nor is any ability to read Hebrew, ancient or modern. Those who do wish to improve their Hebrew reading skills, these sessions provide a friendly and supportive environment, with plenty of insights into the language available from those with longer experience of Torah study.
We share a spirit of enquiry and a desire to engage with the texts. We all appreciate the unique insights, observations, and reflections that each person brings to the class, but there is no obligation to contribute to the discussions if you’d prefer not to. If you’d rather simply listen to the conversation, you’re still a valued member of the group.
