As highlighted in the EJCC newsletter for Jewish Culture Month:
Once the hub of the community, now like many of its older customers Albie’s family bake house is struggling to survive. As hungry re-developers sniff around, Albie bakes on determined not to give up.
The last shop in a row of derelict buildings, the bakery, has been hit by shifting demographics and the dominance of the big supermarkets. Now Rasheed – Albie’s landlord – wants to redevelop the whole site and turn his property business around, but is there room for Albie in his plans?
Set against the changing demographics of Jewish and Asian communities the play is a poignant tale of enterprising youth and resilient senior citizens.
Dough was first performed at A Play, A Pie and A Pint – Glasgow’s lunchtime theatre at Òran Mór in March 2008. This will be a rehearsed reading.
